This week we had the pleasure of talking all things edible beauty supplements with Clean and Green founder, Rebecca Balmforth. Edible beauty is a relatively new concept but it’s well on the way to becoming the next ‘big thing’ in the beauty and wellness industry.

Edible beauty supplements support the systems of the body, providing us with more energy, vitality and general wellness. A good beauty supplement, with pure and potent botanical ingredients and formulas backed by science, will literally make you glow from the inside out.

The Clean and Green philosophy is to nourish your body with ‘real’ whole foods. They also created the Clean and Green App, with 200 wholefoods recipe ideas at your fingertips, perfect for when you’re in a midweek meal rut!

We usually know how many cups of vegetables we should be getting in a day but we’ll be the first to admit that it can be really hard to meet the requirements. Life gets busy and we reach for easy options. And sometimes, you just don’t like vegetables. Nutrition powders make the whole thing super easy! They also taste good, not like ‘pond water’, and can be added to smoothies, protein balls and ice-blocks. This is especially handy for when you’re trying to sneak greens into family members who don’t eat stuff with ‘green in it’.

Clean and Green wholefoods powders come in two blends: Glowing Greens ‘the Alkaliser’ which is rich in nutrients, chlorophyll, enzymes and fibre. And Beauty Berries ‘The Antioxidant Hero’, packed full of anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, skin and hair loving nutrients. It can reduce the signs of aging and inflammation.

'Edible Beauty' is such an exciting new area of the wellness industry, tell us what inspired Clean and Green? It was inspired by my love of nourishing your body with good food and nutrients. Sometimes it is hard to achieve with our busy lives, so convenience of a wholefood powder is also key. I also found that most powders on the market had too many ingredients in their formulas and didn’t taste very good. I teamed up with two highly skilled naturopaths to create beautiful tasting products that are formulated very carefully with optimum health, skin and wellbeing in mind.

For someone just starting out on their wellness journey, what are the benefits of including an organic whole-food powder in their day? Along with eating a healthy diet, wholefood powders give you that extra boost of vitamins and minerals, as they are nutrient dense. Our wholefood powders are particularly high in antioxidants, fibre and chlorophyll which benefits your skin, digestive health and detox processes. Taking them every day will also support your immune system, making us less susceptible to getting sick. Wholefood powders are also a lot easier to digest than something in tablet form so your body can absorb all of the nutrients a lot easier.

Running a business is a full time gig! How do you self-nourish? It sure is. Self nourishment is the key for me. My morning routine consists of breathing exercises as soon as I wake up, followed by oil pulling and a glass of warm lemon water. I then do some form of movement; pilates, yoga, a walk or HIIT. I also take time out during the day to meditate to ground me, as day to day life can get pretty overwhelming.

Was there a defining moment that made you switch to natural skincare and wellness products? Six years ago, I developed a chronic illness and was bedridden for months from toxin overload. I developed a strong chemical sensitivity and this was my turning point. I started to go down the alternative treatment path of healing and that included the switch to organic and natural products, everything from household products, makeup, perfumes, skincare etc.

What is your guiding ethos when it comes to purchasing natural skincare products? Definitely cruelty free products are a must for me. I also do look for most of the ingredients to be organic. I do understand that it can be hard to make products fully “certified organic” so that is not such a big factor, but usually I go from word of mouth and reviews on certain products from reputable brands.

Is there one natural beauty or skincare product that you cannot live without? I must say that I take my Beauty Berries and Glowing Greens every single day without fail and my skin has never been better. It is so important to look after your skin from the inside and not just the outside. Sometimes we forget that. I would also have to say my Mukti Organics Dermal Roller.

Can you run us through your daily skincare routine? My daily skincare routine consists of cleansing my face in the shower. I then use my Mukti Dermal Roller after my shower. After that I moisturise and use an eye cream. My favourite skincare brands that I use are Edible Beauty and Mukti Organics. I tend to not wear makeup as my skin feels so nice being able to breath.

What does living consciously mean to you? Living consciously to me means being more aware and knowledgeable. I am constantly wanting to learn more and I think some people live in a state of ignorance. It’s also coming back to basics. We are all so “busy” and overly stressed and it’s not good for us. We need to look after ourselves more and focus more on being still in mind and body. Do more things that make you happy and laugh. I also feel like meditation helps me a lot with “living consciously” as it helps to put things into perspective when my mind is racing a million miles per hour.
