FROM OUR FOUNDER | And, I told my sisters, I was ready...
The end of 2019 was so hard for many Australians and conscious.kin was not without its own extreme events. My sisters - Rebecca, Emma and I thought we were looking at the complete closure of our little dream we breathed into life back in 2015. We, like so many others in the clean beauty industry, grew too quickly. We wanted to share our dream with so many, but with growth come complications that we were not equipped to deal with. Personal for me, in 2019, I was unable to help my business - I had my own struggles, dealing with intense postnatal depression after the birth of my beautiful universe baby - Gabriel.
In 2019, I was unable to help my business - I had my own struggles, dealing with intense post natal depression after the birth of my beautiful universe baby - Gabriel.
And at the 2019 - Rebecca, Emma and I sadly had to say said goodbye to our Southport showroom.. uncertain of the future of our business in 2020 - over Christmas we rested.
In 2020, with the rest of the country, we were burnt out. On the 2nd of January we had a choice - either close all together, rest, and work out what do do with the remains - or open the doors in James Street for one last valiant effort at holding onto what we created. And, I told my sisters, I was ready.
And, I told my sisters, I was ready...
But! If I was going to do this, with 3 small children, I was going to really strive to do something I was really proud of. The first thing I said, to the team that remained, was that we were going to come back to the reason WHY Rebecca, Emma and I started this business in the first place. To create a platform for all like-minded, hard-working and genuine businesses to share together. To raise Australian & New Zealand brands up to the level in which they deserve to be at, the level in which they already are.
Australia and New Zealand have some of the absolute highest standards in the world, our products are absolutely loved - outside our own countries.. and I still believe that we just need to create the space for these incredible products, on a raised platform to which they deserve. I believe that we continue to build our community, to stand together in a way that supports each other, and not depleting to anyone.
We continue to build our community, to stand together - in a way that supports each other, and does not deplete anyone. My values are simple - Educate. Collaborate. Evolve.
I truly believe we all do the best we can with what we have, and when we know better, we do better.
It became very clear after the Southport crisis, that I cannot do this alone - and although it was super fun to have a couple of key international clean beauty players on board over the last few years, it is not aligned to my values.
So I am here, in 2020, staring through the eye of Mordor, and standing with the incredible makers, trailblazers and people daring to do business in this interesting time. I will give conscious. kin my all, but I do so knowing I support local - knowing the people, and the journey, behind the brands. And if I do that today, then I am okay with whatever tomorrow will bring.
