Five Minutes With Our Kin

What a truly heart bursting week! Not only are we celebrating International Women’s Day but also the release of Vogue Australia’s March issue ‘Designing The Future’; a super special edition guest-edited by actor and activist Emma Watson, featuring all things sustainability and equality.

Things are certainly being overturned in a very real and tangible way in the last year with women’s marches, marriage equality and the me-too movement, all against the backdrop of a rather questionable political climate.

Equality is on everyone’s radar and taking a stand for something meaningful no longer feels like a token gesture. The times they are a changing, right now, in our lifetime. If there’s ever a time to celebrate the sisterhood, this is it.

Finding your community of women, or your tribe, is one of the best things in life. Sometimes you are lucky enough to be born into your ‘circle’ but for most of us it takes time, it truly does. You might wonder if you will ever find your people. But think of it akin to collecting shells or rocks; no-one finds a whole collection at once. You add to it slowly, one precious gem of a person at a time.

We like to think of the our community in the same way. A little circle with our ‘kin’ at the centre, which makes up part of a bigger circle, that is the community of incredible women around us, aka, you! Today we’d like to introduce you to the backbone of our business; the seriously savvy, beauty-full women who make up our team here at conscious.kin.

A quote you live by? What you do makes a difference. Act like it. Do you make decisions with your head or heart? A quote you live by? It takes many feet to walk the earth, and life would be boring if we were all the same…. I am not sure where this came from but it is basically how I live my life and how I raise my children. Do you make decisions with your head or heart? Actually both. I am straight down the line left brain / right brain thinker. If I have data I will always lean more heavily on that and in the absence data I try to think about a situation from all angles and all ways the outcome could possibly affect things - but in the end, if it doesn’t sit right in my heart or intuitively I will try to find another solution. I think very analytically about the emotional affect. One natural beauty product you cannot live without? Okay - these are my constants. Silk pillow, internal beauty supplement / powder, sheet masks and water…I play all the time with new brands and new products so these are constantly changing, but I have a pretty standard process at home on a daily basis - I drink more water than coffee (hehe), always cleanse, tone and moisturise, have a beauty supplement in the morning either in a smoothie or if I am in a rush I mix in water and grab a banana as I run out the door. After a solid, successful and engaging training session. I love it when I have to deliver training, I am super well prepared and I deliver it in a way that there is awesome team engagement, laughter and real and genuine light bulb moments. Name a woman who inspires you? My Mum :) Being a mother of 12 children I don't know how or when she even slept!  I lost count the number of times  I asked her as a little girl to come lie down with me, because I was scared! She still managed to spread herself around to 11 other children... I'm just in awe of the strength she must have needed.  If I am half the mother she is, I'll be very happy. A quote you live by? Everything happens for a reason - good and bad things happen, but they always serve a purpose. Do you make decisions with your head or heart? Definitely my heart! At least the life you are living now, so why not make the most of it to keep learning, kicking goals and growing. Do you make decisions with your head or heart? I tend to think with my heart, then analyse it before making my final decision. It’s definitely a bit of both. One natural beauty product you cannot live without? Face Mists! My all-time favourite is Alyssum Alchemy Rose Radiance. Words can’t explain the intoxicating scent of this hydrating mist! How do you love to self-nourish? I love to go for a walk along the Brisbane River when I can - I try to go a couple of times a week. I find it’s just time for myself to unwind from the day/week. I listen to podcasts and really take in the world around me when I’m out for a walk. The most inspiring book you’ve read in the last year? Women Who Run With The Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype by Clarissa Pinkola Estes is always on my bedside table. I have also just began reading 12 Rules for Life, An antidote to Chaos by Jordan B. Peterson and so far it has provided me with quite a lot of clarity about the ‘meaning of life’. What is the best advice you’ve ever received? Allow yourself to be vulnerable but keep your wits about you. When do you feel most alive, juicy, blissful? At a drinks and dinner with family or friends. I also feel the most alive and grounded after a massage. What does conscious living mean to you? Doing your best but also forgiving yourself for being human and that we make mistakes and can’t be perfect 24/7. I also think conscious living is about community and working together for a better, beautiful, sustainable future.
